GENERAL

Why is Lollapalooza holding the HackLolla challenge?

The producers of Lollapalooza have launched HackLolla to challenge software developers and Lollapalooza fans to create the best apps that increase fan engagement and help fans get the most from their Lollapalooza experience before, during and after the Festival.

What are the criteria for the winning applications?

Software applications must utilize some part of the Lollapalooza API and will be judged on the Quality of the Idea (Including creativity and originality), Implementation of the Idea (including user experience and design), and Potential Impact on Lollapalooza fans and attendees.

Do I retain intellectual property ownership?

By submitting an app to HackLolla, you do not transfer any intellectual rights to the sponsor of HackLolla (C3 Presents) or the competition administrator (ChallengePost). However, the sponsor and administrator will have the right to post your submission on HackLolla.com during the competition and for 12 months after its conclusion.

If I charge for my app, is it still eligible for Hacklolla?

Yes, you may make your app free or charge for it, and have in-app advertising or not. The goal is to have you create apps that improve the Lollapalooza experience before, during and after the Festival. Submissions will be judged on the following three criteria: (1) Quality of the Idea (including creativity and originality); (2) Implementation of the Idea (including user experience and design); and (3) Potential Impact on Lollapalooza fans and attendees. The Sponsor may disqualify Submissions that contain inappropriate content or violate the intellectual property rights of others.

Can more than one person work on an application and receive credit for it? And if the app wins a prize, will the prize money be split among the creators?

Yes. If a team of individuals, a corporation or an organization is selected as a prize winner, the prize will be awarded to the group and it will be up to them to split or appropriately allocate the prize.

Can I enter more than one application?

Yes. There is no limit to how many times an eligible person or organization may enter. And, an individual may join more than one team, corporation, or nonprofit organization.

Does my app need to have store approval prior to the submission deadline?

No, but your app should be submitted to the relevant app store by the submission deadline. For iPhone apps or apps developed for other platforms that are not easily shared on the web before store approval, you may submit your working software app using a web framework designed for those platforms (like PhoneGap, etc), and provide the required link to a video of your working application. The Competition Administrator may request access to the application in person or via device UDID provisioning to verify any criteria about your application.

Who is eligible to enter the competition and from what countries?

HackLolla is open to legal residents and corporations or organizations from the fifty (50) United States (including the District of Columbia) and Canada (excluding Quebec). Individuals must have reached the age of majority in their state or province of residence.

Do the submitted apps have to be newly created for this competition, or can they be pre-existing applications adapted to utilize the Lollapalooza API?
